Since the collapse of Afghanistan in August 2021, there has been an outburst of restrictions on civil society, women and girls, by the ruling regime. At, the Afghan Women's Development Foundation (AWDF), we recognise there is a need in the UK and further afield to support this female community, so we've set up a charity to do just that. Our mission is to promote education, well-being, self-reliance, peace and social justice by fostering collaboration with individuals around the world to support the women of Afghanistan.

Building Hope

By acting on behalf of, and for, the female Afghan community, we offer a voice to those in need. We are here to champion Afghan women's rights across the UK.

Providing Strength

By mobilising support, garnering attention and pushing for policy changes, AWDF seeks to make impactful change, to create a more equitable and secure environment for Afghan women.

Offering Opportunities

By offering scholarship support and other educational opportunities, we aim to provide the tools needed for Afghan women to take back their independence.

The Afghan Women's Development Foundation aims to support and empower the UK female Afghan network through Community, Education, Equality efforts.

Our Empowerment Channels

How we help

Through a number of empowerment channels AWDF, aim to provide the female Afghan community with the support they need, to start taking back their independence.

Empowerment Through Research
Conducting truly representative and comprehensive research is a key deliverable within the foundation, as we believe there is a significant research gap when it comes to understanding the true socioeconomic situation of women in Afghanistan.
Economic Empowerment
Facilitating access to education, economic opportunities, and the resources necessary for achieving financial independence and sustainability is a key deliverable of AWDF.
Empowerment Through Advocacy
Whether campaigning or networking, we aim to provide those without a voice the support they need in the right spaces. Our advocacy efforts are enacted strategically to support the female community within both the UK and Afghanistan.
Team hands together
Education Empowerment
Through our partnerships with multiple universities across the UK, we aim to provide scholarship placement and support to Afghan women.

Hasina Safi, AWDF founder

Our Champion

Hasina Safi

Hasina Safi served as the Women’s Minister for Afghanistan before the recent collapse of Afghan democracy. With Hasina’s support, we can leverage a robust international network to advance AWDF’s mission. Her involvement with organizations such as the International Rescue Committee, the International Organization for Migration, and the United Nations Development Programme makes her an invaluable advocate for AWDF.

Crucially, Hasina brings over two decades of experience, during which she has developed expertise in a wide range of development practices. Her focus areas include organizational development, policy and program development, women’s economic empowerment, capacity building, and advocacy for human rights, peace-building, and women’s rights.

With Hasina's support, we are capable of expanding our reach, enhancing our programs, and making a greater impact in empowering women and advocating for their rights globally.
